Static – Mili

Static is a pop song written by the band Mili and the theme song for the theatrical version of the anime Goblin Slayer. When I first encountered Mili, I was shocked to learn that it was a Japanese group, but lead singer Momocashew is from Canada, and she is the linguist of the music industry, as she writes lyrics and sings lead vocals, and she speaks at least three languages, including Chinese, English, and Japanese. Mili's style of music, led by Yamato Kasai, his songwriter and guitarist, is genre defying, creating a bunch of songs that you wouldn't think were compiled by the same band if you didn't recognize Momo's voice on the vocals.

The track is very much a storyteller, with a light, sterile beginning that fits the slightly lonely mood while also laying the groundwork for what's to come. This is followed by an unruly narrative-like repetition without melody, and then it naturally transitions into a developmental section. The gradual regularity of the tones and the intensification of the sound, coupled with the elfin incantations, hit the eardrums over and over again. But just as the climax was approaching, it came to an abrupt halt, and the sudden change seemed to deflate and frustrate the audience, making them look forward to the real climax even more, even though it was not enjoyable. The development of the song again and again makes people more excited, as if breaking the shackles after the overhead language, more and more excited, with Momo's classic unparalleled soprano voice is the climax. The only way I can describe the climax is as natural, as if the water was flowing, and it surprised me so much that I couldn't help but put it on my list of brainwashing loops. The ending is equally memorable. To summarize, this is really a not-so-popular masterpiece, and I hope you have the patience to enjoy it to the end.
